My Cube Collection

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while but I just finally got around to it. In this post I’m only going to cover my main puzzles. I apologize for the funny lighting in these pictures, I used two pieces of cardstock, my phone and my lamp shaped like a panda bear to take these pictures. 😀

3x3s

This is my second Rubik’s cube ever. I got this after my first one broke on a trip. You can read about that in my cubing story post. I learned how to solve with this cube so it has a very special place in my heart.

This is my first speedcube. I got it from amazon, and after only ever using a Rubik’s brand it felt amazing. I learned finger tricks and CFOP on this cube. Corner cutting was poor on this cube and I didn’t realize cubes could be tensioned so the cube was not set up properly (also didn’t realize about lube).

This was my second speedcube. I really loved the feel of this cube, unfortunately it kept popping. I later used it to try to learn blind solving (I was not successful) by writing letters all over it. You can see I tried removing them on the white side! (does anyone have any tips about how to get 8 month old dry erase markers off of a stickerless speed cube?)

I’m going to use the same pictures for both these cubes because they look exactly the same. I got my Gans 356 air and I used it for a while. I loved the feel, but unfortunately broke so I got a Gans 356 Air SM. It was a great cube but I never enjoyed the feel of the SM a much (I believe partly due to the honeycomb design).

You can read all about my new speed cube here!

2x2s

I bought this 2×2 from target. I knew I probably should have waited to get a speedcube but I just couldn’t resist. I haven’t learned the actual method for solving a 2×2 but I applied algorithms I knew from 3×3 and I was able to solve it that way.

This cube was a huge improvement from the Rubik’s brand I was using. I mostly bought this so I could pick up a 2×2 without grimacing. As I don’t actually practice 2×2 it doesn’t need to be perfect so I probably won’t buy any more 2×2’s.

Pyraminx

If I remember correctly, I got this puzzle before I learned how to solve a Rubik’s cube. We went out to dinner one time and this kid had a pyraminx. I was fascinated and fumbled with it until I solved it by chance. When I got home I had to get one and learn how to solve it. This is actually a terrible quality puzzle. Some of the pieces are loose and it is incredibly hard to turn. But it is one of the oldest puzzles in my collection I believe!

This was my second pyraminx. I actually love this puzzle (I have no idea what to say when its not cubed shape becuse its not a cube but pyramid sounds weird). It has a nice clicking mechanism and it turns easily. My friends love this puzzle because it is much easier to solve!

Miscellaneous

I have a few other puzzles though as they are mostly just cheap impulse buys from Target and I have forgotten how to solve them from memory I decided to not put them in this blog. Let me know if you want to hear about them in a separate post!
